The Risk as a Service team at PayPal is dedicated to helping companies prevent fraudulent activity and manage disputes with products and integrated solutions that leverage machine learning, big data analytics, data visualization and automation capabilities. PayPal’s solutions level the playing field against even the most sophisticated fraudsters by enabling analysts to create and configure detection mechanisms without having to write code.

PayPal seeks technologists with exceptional technical talent, programming abilities, and communication skills, who have a keen desire to deeply understand our products and enhance the strength and resilience of our systems. As a Software Engineer, you will be an individual contributor collaborating with various cross-functional groups, including product teams, lead engineers, and other engineering teams.

This role involves building internal tools and automations, requiring strong collaboration skills. Meet our team Your team is responsible for developing and rolling out automations and monitoring dashboard applications to positively influence the reliability, availability, and stability of our products. This includes innovating through automation to support merchant escalations, providing deeper visibility on platform metrics for merchants, offering data insights on platform KPIs, taking ownership of monitoring dashboards, collaborating with stakeholders to address external partner issues, managing live issues triage and bug fixes, and providing L1/L2 support. The team is globally located, and this role will collaborate in a diverse and global environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end quality of deliverables and ensure that the implementation adheres to defined specs and processes.
  • Demonstrate a customer centric mindset as part of day-day work.
  • Understand technical designs by working within PayPal’s cross-functional technology team.
  • Work with managers, leads and peers to come up with implementation options
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage continuously changing business needs.

Qualifications

  • 2 + years of Strong programming skills and expertise in Java, Nodejs and Python.
  • Experience with REST API’s, Web Services, Unit Testing and build tools.
  • Experience in refactoring existing code base and in understanding existing implementations to decide to refactor or rewrite.
  • Good understanding and hands on experience with databases such as MySQL / Oracle / BigQuery etc.
  • Good understanding and hands on experience with BI Tools such as Tableu / Looker / Power BI etc.
  • Take risks and thrive in an environment of constant change.
